Charlie Lenell, PhD, CCC-SLP

Adjunct Instructor; Post Doctoral Fellow

Charlie is a postdoc in the Department of Surgery at UW-Madison and a certified and licensed speech-language pathologist. Charlie received his MS in speech-language pathology at Eastern Illinois University and PhD at New York University. The primary focus of his research is evaluation and treatment of laryngeal disorders: voice and swallowing disorders. His current research is focused on evaluating how hormones affect vocal fold biology. The goal of this research line is to demystify how sex hormones contribute to vocal fold health using a translational rat model. By understanding the underlying hormone-dependent mechanisms responsible for vocal fold health, we can better understand why women are at a higher risk of developing a voice disorder than men and how hormonal dysregulation may contribute to the development of certain voice disorders.
